Veneers, Implants & Extractions
Dental veneers are a form of cosmetic dentistry in which a shell or layer of tooth-colored porcelain or composite is placed over the facial surfaces of your teeth to correct worn tooth enamel, uneven tooth alignment or spacing, discoloration and chips or cracks.
A dental implant is much like a natural tooth, which has a root in your jawbone, topped by a crown that you can see. First is the surgical placement of the implant(s) into the bone. This is routinely performed by an Oral Surgeon or Periodontist. After surgery, there is a healing period of approximately four months. During this time, the implants fuse to the bone by a process known as ‘osseointegration’.
Next, there is a minor surgical exposure of the top of the implant, whereby the surgeon or periodontist will attach a healing abutment to the implant.
You will then return to our office for the final restorative phase. The dentist will take impressions and our lab will fabricate a crown that fits on a custom abutment. To finish the process the custom abutment is screwed onto the implant and the crown is cemented onto the abutment giving the appearance and functionality of a natural tooth.
A tooth that is severely damaged may need to be removed. Simple extractions are done right here in our office, where as more complicated surgical extractions will be referred to an Oral Surgeon for removal.
